All registered Medical and Dental students are automatically enrolled in the UNLV sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan, premium charge will be applied to your student account. Enrolled students can enroll their eligible dependents during online enrollment periods below using the online enrollment link.

School of Dental Medicine DMD, DDS, Orthodontic (Resident and Fellowship), and Pediatric Students

Insured Students who are enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan may also enroll their eligible dependents.

Opt-Out/Waiver

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

To qualify for a waiver, your health insurance plan must meet the requirements listed below.

Nursing, SOD & SOM
To qualify for a waiver, your health insurance plan must meet the requirements as listed below.
1. Be active by the first day of the term you are waiving.
2. Insurance plan must have offices and operate in the US.
3. Provide Primary and Emergency Care within 40 miles of the main UNLV campus.
4. Pay 80% or greater for Inpatient Hospitalization.
5. Pay 80% or greater for Inpatient and Outpatient Mental Health benefits.
6. Provide Prescription Medication coverage.
7. Must have an unlimited Annual Maximum
8. Plans must be ACA compliant in order to be considered for a health insurance waiver.
9. Must have Fluid Exposure coverage.
10. Must have Needle Stick coverage.
